Worms to Bugs:
Biology to Data Science
Worms to Bugs' sounds more like a nature talk, but this is really the story of my journey into Data Science. I spent 4 years studying to become a Biologist, working closely with microscopic worms (harder to spot than the bugs in my code). One job resignation, one year of retraining & three years of learning on the job later, I'm now a Data Science Tech Lead at an industry-leading gaming company. In this talk, we'll discuss my journey: the wins, the mistakes and everything I've learned along the way.
Key Takeaways:
-
What sets Data Science apart from other data roles
-
What to know if you don’t come from a Computer Science/Mathematics background
-
The online tools & learning strategy I used
-
Tackling technical interviews with confidence
-
How AI tools can accelerate your learning & day-to-day work
-
Common pitfalls to avoid when starting a Data Science career
-
Making an impact at work in a short timeframe

Tech Lead Manager,
Data Science & Analytics
I'm a Tech Lead of Data Science at Tripledot Studios, where I started as a Junior Data Scientist 3 years ago. I live and work in London, and my day to day includes diving into millions of rows of data to spot trends & predict player behaviour with SQL, using Python & statistics to develop bespoke A/B test analysis tooling, defining new data models & core dashboards, and most importantly supporting my team.
